With frequent usage, charger cables can become frayed or damaged. When this happens, they have a greater risk of overheating and starting a fire, or they may just stop working altogether.
To prevent this, you can take the metal spring out of a pen and wrap it around your charger cable to give it extra support. This'll hopefully help it to last longer.

I have tried various methods to keep charging cables from getting damaged. Number one. Don't use the unit like a phone while charging. That puts stress on the cable.
