Despite coming from a family of wine and beer makers, I have never attempted it.
My Dad used to knock out assorted beers when I was young, and the whole family were dragged along on picking missions for a variety of fruits for wine making, Sloe, Damson, Blackberry, Plum and many others all found in local woods and fields and some grown at home. Brother-in-law used to make wine out of anything he could find Rosehips, Tea, Rice etc.
Bad experiences - Dad made Elderflower Champagne once, had a load of old Pomagne bottles which he filled and wired up.
Over the course of few weeks all we kept hearing were loud bangs as the bottles started popping leaving empty bottles and a tide of Champagne coming out of the cupboard.
Of the few that were left a couple were opened indoors with the (plastic) corks leaving holes in the ceiling followed by all the contents of the bottle. Those opened outdoors saw the corks disappearing into the sky and scenes like a Grand Prix celebration as it all sprayed out even without any shaking.
Probably only enough for a couple of glasses to drink from about 20 bottles made.
Another one was as a teen I went to a bring a bottle party, forgot to buy anything so took one of my Dad's bottles of home made Crabapple wine, nobody else would drink it so rather than waste it I drunk the whole bottle.
Don't remember much after that :no until the Police turned up the next day.
Seems it had turned me into the Incredible Hulk and I been fighting wwith everyone including all my friends.
Not a mark on me, but most of them wouldn't talk to me again ::)
So not my thing ;)
You don't have to follow in anyone's footsteps but your own! God made you to be unique. Find out what that is and be it. ;)
Btw, drinking a whole bottle of anything is NOT a good idea! Been there , done that a few times. :rofl1
In recent years I've been making cider and beer, but out of all the ones I've made I only enjoyed drinking one of them. I don't like bitter drinks so I have to add a little lemonade to it so it's palatable to me, the current batch of lager I've made again I don't like it although my wife loves it.
Not sure if I'll make anything else or not, I might try wine but it will be from a packet not picking my own
