Well, I tinkered with the PC just a little too much and then it wouldn't boot.

I tried using the clone drive to boot from and that didn't work either.

So I then downloaded the recovery software from Dell and now I'm starting all over again with the PC.

What's really annoying is all the programs I have to re-install and tweaking it back to where it was.

I'm going to give myself a good talking to later  :club

Don't you have a Hiren's BootCD

They are invaluable when PC systems don't want to work

OK - but you need to check out the Hiren's BootCD for future reference.
It has loads of useful stuff on it  ;)

I have been thinking about upgrading my PC for a while, this one I've had since 2014.
Still works great but obviously an old operating system, and could do with upgraded graphics etc.
But the thing that keeps putting me off, is the thought of having to re-install all those useful programs I've accumulated plus all the setting etc. Also hoping a lot of them would work with a new OS.

What operating system does it have? Most programs that work on Win 7 or 8 will work on Win 11, obviously there are some that wont, but you can right click the exe of most programs and then install them in compatibility mode, so it might not be as bad as you think.
You could also re-install the current system and if it's Win 7 I think you can do a refresh which keeps all your documents etc, you will of course lose you intalled programs but at least you would know they'll all work again
