Yesterday and today I have started to cook stinging nettles.
( I am all for free and cheap food )
I steamed the stinging nettles, using only the tips of the plants, also wearing gloves whilst picking them.
When steamed, they look like spinach.
I let them cool, then blitz them in to a pesto type substance, I then added tuna flakes to them, and mixed together with black pepper, chilli flakes (only a pinch), a large dollop of tartare sauce, and 3 large dollops of mayo, no salt, because there is enough salt in the tuna.
as it happens it tasted quite nice, I shall have the mixture in some nice tortilla wraps

I've thought about eating nettles, but haven't done it yet. I have made nettle tea, it's not bad, a slight taste of cabbage about it.
If you hold them by the centre of the leaf you wont get stung, the stinging hairs are around the edge of the leaf.
