The trade war between Canada and Mexico and U.S. has started today.

The U.S. president's moves raised fears of higher inflation and the prospect of a trade war even as he promised the American public that taxes on imports are the easiest path to national prosperity. He has shown a willingness to buck the warnings of mainstream economists and put his own public approval on the line, believing that tariffs can fix what ails the country.

"It's a very powerful weapon that politicians haven't used because they were either dishonest, stupid or paid off in some other form," Trump said Monday at the White House. "And now we're using them."

He's found the goose that lays the golden eggs.

Tariffs are collected at the border and go to the government to do with as they please.

I want to say a lot of nasty things about what he's said but I'm biting my tongue at the moment. His treatment of Zelensky in the US was absolutely atrocious, all the man wanted was assurances his country would keep getting the support it needs once the minerals issue was resolved.

He said Zelensky was a dictator as he didn't have elections...Winston Churchill didn't have elections during WW2, so he must have been a dictator too...Trump is an idiot   :gun

As I understood it (obviously I'm not an economist  :) )
America imposes tariffs on Canada, meaning goods imported into America will be subject to a 25% tax (if that is the figure).
Meaning importers now have to pay the cost price and give 25% straight to the US government, so they will have to raise the price to the US consumer to cover the cost,
making Canadian goods far more expensive and less attractive.

Canada will need to impose tariffs on American imports, to counteract the damage to the trade balance.
Meaning the customers in Trumpton and Canada will have some serious inflation, and will probably cost jobs on both sides of the border.
Also if the likes of China retaliate we're looking at a global recession as I can't think of any country that is self sufficient?
The future looks far from bright  :no

Won't share my thoughts on the bunch of muppets running America, as this is a non political site I believe  :)

It might backfire because of the exchange factor which is about 30% in there favour. Still affordable.
