This is a real puzzle Dave.

I'm not blocking popups per the screen shot and I don't get the Attachments prompt with Firefox but I do get it with Chrome

Well I do have the workaround to post pictures.

A problem with Chrome- If there is a long post it stops at 20 posts and doesn't give the arrow to go to the second page.

Well what can you expect with ancient equipment.  My son who is a computer programmer makes fun of me.  He tells me I would be using an abacus if I can find one.

I'm just grateful for what I have .  Some things that used to be free are no longer available.

Some nice programs that let you copy CD's.  This computer I'm typing on now still takes 3 1/2 diskettes. It also has plenty of USB ports.

Programs like Word and Excel from 2007 still work. Simply Accounting still works.

Well I'm not normally stumped but although I installed XP SP3 on the mini laptop I cannot get the internet or wi-fi and other stuff to work even though I have the drivers for it. My best guess is that as the machine was built for Windows & it will not accepted the XP/7 drivers.

I did manage to take a screen shot with my phone, see attached

Copy and paste the following line into the Firefox browser address bar.

about:preferences#content

The next page that opens should be similar to the one in the photo

Just make sure there is no tick in the 'Block Popup Windows'

If there is no tick there already I have various other versions of Firefox you can try if you want to.

OK That's one of the versions I have. I'll do testing today and see what I can find out

I had a breakthrough also Camper. I managed to get XP SP3 installed on my mini laptop.

So tomorrow I will investigate more. I have Firefox 59 and if necessary I can get earlier/later versions too.

What version of Firefox were you using?

Dave: Good News for my Desktop.
I downloaded an old version of Chrome and it works.
The shout box is messed up on the forum but I'm able to post images.
Check the one today for the Aurora Borealis Northern Lights close to my city.
Clicking on it will expand it.  They are beautiful.  They dance all over the sky. best observed away from city lights.
Thanks for all your help and your resolve about not giving up.

Camper I'm not sure if this is your problem or not but have a look at this post https://www.quizland.co.uk/index.php?topic=9712.0.

In most cases where you want to include images in your posts you will click on the 'Click or drag files here to attach them' and it will happen as a popup. If Firefox is set to not allow popups then that's why you can't include them.

Try it out and let me know. If you're using an old version of Firefox let me know as I have a couple of old versions I can test it on...once XP has installed that is, it's taking hours.

One last thing. Do you have service pack 3 installed on your machine? I'm asking because I managed to download a standalone version of it from MS and if you haven't got it installed I can upload it so you download and install it.  It's virus free, but as it's 300+ MB I cannot post it on here.

This is how to find out

In Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7

1)  From the Start Menu, RIGHT-click on (My) Computer.  (It's only called "My" in Windows XP.)

2)  Left-click on PROPERTIES.

3)  At the top of the System Properties window, you will find both the version of Windows you are operating and which Service Pack is installed, if any.  Here's an example from Windows 7 (notice it has Service Pack 1 installed) and another example from Windows XP (SP3).

I don't have any pop up blockers.

I do have Service Pack 3.

I tried again but I don't get the option to post images.

So if I want to post an image I go to my Samsung Tablet (Galaxy Tab A 8",2019 })and it allows me to post images and seems to have all the functions of the forum.

If I'm not posting images I prefer to use the desktop and keyboard.  It's a lot simpler and I have a printer hooked up.  I'll fool around with the insert image option.

Thanks for the effort.  It may help for future users.

I remember in the good old days that browsers were designed for specific computers.

Quote from: Dave on 21.03.2026, 07:23Camper I'm not about to give up. Can you answer a couple of questions for me please?

What version on Windows, if that's what you're using, is on your machine?

What web browser are you using?

I think I might know what your issue is but I want to replicate it first if I can. I have different versions of Windows set up in a virtual machine so I can test stuff.

Thanks for the effort Dave.

I'm afraid the desktop computer is too old to support older browsers.

I don't get the options for attachments.

Quote from: Lee on 17.03.2026, 18:14You need to go to the box at the bottom "click or drag files here to attach them"
and once the file is in there press the blue arrow and click insert, then post  :thumbup

Thanks for helping Lee

It's not necessary to click on insert, especially if the image you have is small then it makes it difficult for others to see the text or details in the image. It's better for small images to just add them and then post so they're at the bottom when you're finished.

I'm able to post images now using my IPad and Safari browser. I get the options. But not on my desktop. Too old I guess.
Thanks for your help.
